Scripture and Prayer Topic: Anger/Forgiveness

Scripture and Prayer Topic: Anger/Forgiveness

Scripture: Matthew 6: 9-15 (or 6-12 in most Bibles.)

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom, come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, for thine is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer:

Wise and forgiving Father, help us to let go of the limiting thoughts, words, and actions of our past as we embark on a new year, better us. Help us to see, embrace, and engage all the opportunities placed before us that draw us nearer to the Divine Plan you have for us. Help us to remember we must release the old anger, fear, and disappointments to make way for a new life, centered in gratitude and love. Amen.

Personal/Professional Growth Tool Suggestion:

Read the book “Taming The Tiger Within.” By: Thich Nhat Hanh. In the book, there are many great points of consideration. Among them: “When we embrace anger and take good care of our anger, we obtain relief. We can look deeply into it and gain many insights. One of the first insights may be that the seed of anger in us has grown too big and is the main cause of our misery. As we begin to see this reality, we realize the other person, whom our anger is directed at, is only a secondary cause. The other person is not the real cause of our anger.

Coping Skill Suggestion:

As warmer weather approaches: walk a labyrinth or walking path, with mindful awareness.

On your way to the center point, call attention to the negative spaces or thoughts that keep troubling you. Identify the ways they hold you back from obtaining your goals or desired achievements.

On the outward path, truly release these concerns, worries, doubts, and hindrances to the Divine, as they were never ours to carry, especially alone.
