Scripture and Prayer Topic: Gratitude

Scripture and Prayer Topic: Gratitude

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ.

Prayer:

Dear Father, let us see the humor and your wisdom in every situation. Too many times we get bogged down in the hellfire and brimstone preachings we heard as children and overlook your are just as responsible for the humor in our lives. Help us to live more in those lighthearted, joyous moments. Amen.

Personal/Professional Growth Tool Suggestion:

Get to know your coworkers better by sharing a funny tale about yourself or a previous employment experience. Connecting through humor brings forth those feel good endorphins that help everyone in the room have a better day. It helps coworkers feel engaged and included… perhaps stimulate a game of office pranks to lighten the everyday mundane… simply ensure it’s good natured fun for all, meaning everyone is included and and not menacing or bullying in nature.

Coping Skill Suggestion:

Laugh at yourself and a situation, each day. For instance, I was dumb enough to walk away from filling a tea kettle from our purified water faucet, last night, to use the rest room, as that faucet is always SO SLOW! Well, like other times, I forgot to go back and turn the faucet off. I went downstairs for a scheduled meditation. A few minutes into the meditation, I hear a gentle, “Honey, I am sorry to interrupt; but, we have a major flood, upstairs.” UGH! How stupid of me! By the time I am done cleaning up, (seemingly larger overflows each time,) I think to myself… I guess God is trying to remind me about how much I used to love cleaning and how it used to be cathartic for me. Since I hadn’t done the spring cleaning under the stove/range, yet, guess what got completed unexpectedly, tonight?! Indeed! I think I’ll pull out the refrigerator this weekend, so God doesn’t find the need to giggle at me overflowing the countertops and floors again, to encourage me to do that task! LOL!
