Scripture and Prayer Topic: Growth
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
Prayer:
Your Grace, help us to be less resistant to growing. Growing in our faith, and in our trust in you and God’s promises... not dependent on the foolishness, or promises of merely mortal men. It is the promises of your love and everlasting life that truly break the yokes that have broken the backs of too many, for the sake or profiting of the few. May our faith in you, ruling from above, override the fear being induced by the men professing here today… leading us into a less professing and more confessing way of life. A life more pleasing to you, Amen.
Personal/Professional Growth Tool Suggestion:
Even overachievers have typically at least one area of their lives in which we procrastinate. So, what a better way to overcome that little nugget that holds us up, than to read a book about “How To Stop Procrastinating: (Practical Tools for an Action Orientated Life.”) Such as the one by Tom Shepherd.
Coping Skill Suggestion:
Learn to incorporate your senses into your mindfulness routine. My favorite two are hearing and smelling. Music (whether listening, writing, or playing it… it doesn’t have to be perfect… remember every primitive culture has been found to have had music in it,) and involves another sense… feeling… so, “bonus!”
Ahh smelling, my favorite way to incorporate smelling is through the use of essential oils, mentioned only a mere 2,000 times in the Bible! You can diffuse them, wear some (most need a carrier oil so consult someone who can teach or advise you properly, please, and I can refer you to competent teachers in this profession, if you wish. Simply leave a comment and we can connect about answering any questions you may have.) I use them in my home office and studio through diffusion and wearing them topically while I write, play percussion, collaborate on music projects with friends around the world, etc. It’s a fabulous way to connect with your partner or spouse to foster better connectedness and no words even have to be exchanged. Different messages or intentions can be set based upon your thoughts; but, also by the choices in the variety of individual or blends of oils you choose to use. Oils offered my body great support in coming off some of my over-prescribed medications a few years ago. [I was literally prescribed a minimum of taking 28 pills a day, in order to get out of bed and “function.” (their definition of living or functioning, not mine.) Even a counselor who saw me then; and, my “after” a few years later responded, “So… they were slowly killing you!” Finally, someone within the medical community who saw and said it, without me needing to do so! It took time and the right gurus to help me get there; but, it can be done!] Oils Rock! Music Rocks! Rock it, my friends!
