Scripture and Prayer Topic: Music and Singing

Scripture:Psalm 59:16

But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

Prayer:

Dearest Divine, in those minutes and hours I find doubt within about sharing what I know to be coming from you, let me reach a little deeper to find that seed of faith you planted in me, long ago. Let me rest assuredly in your guidance throughout my life, to have more than sufficiently prepared me for the moment… each moment, from this day forward. When I trust in you, you always provide the way for me to learn what I hadn’t learned thus far, to prepare for those moments I need to feel your love, closer than ever. For all of these times you have made my heart feel immeasurably full, thank you. Amen.

Personal/Professional Growth Tool Suggestion:

Have a workplace “down day,” once a quarter where you go do a fun activity together… or a workplace camping weekend. This was a practice within the military, when we could do so depending on the workload. It fostered a greater understanding of one another; and, activities like camping where families can meet one another can build external friendships and support networks. We can learn so much about the stress workplaces place on family life and how stresses at home can affect workflow. Once understood, we can choose to build up one another in both arenas.

Coping Skill Suggestion:

Go fishing. Even if you catch nothing, you can experience the entire range of emotions, while you’re trying to catch a fish who isn’t going to bow to your will or bite on your bait, or remain on your line the entire time you’re reeling it to shore… or trying. If you’ve been holding any emotions inside of you, you won’t be able to hold in any frustrations and they will come out in some form of expression while you’re experiencing the joy of fishing. Learning to get the bait to remain on the line as you’re casting the line out into the water, watching a bobber or feeling the line tension awaiting the tug that you know will latch that fish onto your hook for your breakfast or dinner! Oh… and steer clear of casting your fishing line into the trees… a favorite faux pas of my late sister! Let the fun challenge of fishing commence!
